"Internet to reduce poverty and create jobs" presentation by ICT Minister Diego Molano in Davos, Switzerland

The presentation will take place in the 2015 World Economic Forum held in Davos, Switzerland, between the 21th and the 24th of January, with the presence of 1,500 business leaders and up to 50 heads of state of the world. The Minister Molano will make part of debates and discussions on telecommunications and innovation.

The Minister of ICT Diego Molano Vega will participate on behalf of Colombia in five sessions of the World Economic Forum; which will held this week in Davos Switzerland. Molano Vega will participate in debates and discussions on telecommunications and innovation. Similarly CEO will have meetings with leading telecommunications companies in the world to attract foreign investment in Colombia.

This year the World Economic Forum will discuss the conflict in the Middle East, terrorism and the international economic situation related to the energy sector as main topics. However, within the social and technological model, issues such as economic, industrial and social impact of mobile world of the future; technology for humanity; transforming business in a hyper-connected world; digital infrastructure and applications, and how to keep all world on the Web, will be also addressed.

The Minister Diego Molano will participate in five meetings and a press conference where recommendations on how to overcome imbalances in the talent and innovation for Latin America will be given. Oliver Cann, World Economic Forum's Director of Media Relations, and John Levis, Deloitte Global's Chief Innovation Officer and Regional Managing Director for the America's Region, will also participate.

Molano's participation will start in a session called, "What future do we want?" which seeks to create an environment of reflection and analysis in the participants on desirable futures around the interaction of technology and human decisions. In this conference, Molano will participate along with Valerie Amos, Undersecretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator (OCHA); Hakubun Shimomura, Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology of Japan, and William Lacy Swing, Director-General, International Organization for Migration (IOM).

On the second day of the venue, Molano will open the session "Digital Infrastructure and Applications 2020 and beyond", in which the future of digital infrastructure will be explored by leaders of the ICT industry, public figures and members of the Community New Champions.

On the same day, he will participate in a discussion with world leaders of the telecommunications world about how to close the digital divide.

On Friday the 23th the Minister will be a discussion leader at the session "Maintain" everyone "on the Web"" along with experts as Fadi Chehade, President of Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN); William J. Drake - International Fellow and Lecturer, University of Zurich; Michael T. Fries, President and Chief Executive Officer, Liberty Global Plc; Angel Gurría, OECD Secretary General and Francis Gurry, Director-General, World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO).

The objectives of the session are directed towards the activation of cooperation and participation in the global dialogue about the practices used by companies to solve problems, and its political implications; questions about the State or Nation model, and what is needed to benefit citizens with an efficient, flexible and open Governmental service are also formulated.

Minister Molano will also be a panelist for the session: "A hyper-connected world: Transforming Your Business", led by the President of General Electric. In this session, participants will explore and evaluate the impact of digital technologies on business and society, analyzing how to handle the uncertainty caused by the digital transformation, and how to adapt business and customer practices to changing environments requiring rapid adaptation.

Finally, on the last day, he will attend the "Informal Meeting of World Economic Leaders: The New Global Context of Post-2015 Development of the United Nations"; a meeting in which millennium goals such as ending world poverty will be discussed.
