Redvolucion wins award to the information society

The strategy of the Ministry of ICT to reduce the digital divide, winning in the category 1 "The Role of Governments and the national partners in the promotion of ICTS for Development".

The Program of the Ministry Redvolucion ICT creditor was made in Geneva (Switzerland) to the award of the World Summit on the Information Society (#WSIS) in category 1 "The Role of Governments and the national partners in the promotion of ICTS for Development".

This category rewards the initiatives that promote the creation of public-private partnerships for the development of the community through information and communication technologies. "This award is very meaningful to Colombia with any time that the award recognizes the efforts of countries to implement the results of the World Summit on the Information Society and even more important that reward to Colombia in the category "The Role of Governments and the national partners in the promotion of the ICT for Development" any time that the most important players of Redvolucion are young actors of our fundamental development" said the ICT Minister, Diego Molano Vega.

Redvolucion is a strategy of the ICT ministry that seeks to reduce the digital divide expanding knowledge of new technologies - specifically from Internet -, toward segments of our population that for various reasons have not entered in the digital way. In practice, the strategy is developed with people who are already "digital native" they put at the disposal of their fellow citizens and their immediate surroundings, their knowledge of the internet and the many possibilities it offers for improving the lives of individuals and communities.

The most important actors of this initiative are the young people, particularly students in grades 10 and 11 providing 80 hours of Compulsory Social Service to inspire their families and the community in the use of the Internet. Redvolucion has succeeded in linking the Compulsory Social Services to nearly 3,000 educational institutions and more than 27,000 young people to inspire the community in the use of the Internet. Today nearly 30,000 people have benefited through this important program.

Redvolucion is a proposal that clears the negative ideas to all the people will recognize the ICT, specifically to the internet, such as ability to inspire and share what we know, we want or need. The World Summit on the Information Society is a space designed to examine the progress made by countries in the implementation of the outcome of the Summit under the mandates of the participating agencies, and to take stock of achievements in the past 10 years on the basis of the reports of the WSIS including those presented by the countries, the line of action facilitators and other interested parties. The contest of the WSIS is open to all interested parties: governments, the private sector, civil society, international organizations, academic institutions, among others.

The contest consists in 18 categories that are directly linked to the CMSI lines of action outlined in the Geneva Plan of Action. On this occasion there were 45 countries with projects in the different categories and Colombia participated in 6 categories with projects such as: Redvolución, en TIC Confío, Vive Gobierno Móvil, Teletrabajo, Red de Periodismo de Hoy and Soy TIC.

In addition, the ICT Ministry has also been awarded with the distinction to the best plan for technology in the world, the Vive Digital Plan, recognition in the most important trade fair in the telecommunications industry, the GSMA Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.
